In-Depth Information
Kaske Campsite $
( 0928-162836; campsites per tent Birr85, tent hire Birr100, r Birr250; ) Thanks to
a canopy of lush mango trees, there's plenty of shade at this campsite next to the Kaske
River. The stark concrete rooms (only one with its own bath) are better than the cheapies
in town, as are the rudimentary but clean shared facilities. It's 4km east of Turmi, a long
hot walk to town for meals, or a short walk to Buska Lodge.
CAMPGROUND
Turmi Lodge $$$
( 0116-631481, www.turmilodge.com ; campsites s/d US$15/21, s/d incl breakfast
US$65/75; ) A less-attractive alternative to Buska Lodge, the ugly pink-tin-roofed
rooms are plain but maintained and the service is good. The nearby church means there's
an early weekend and Orthodox holiday wake-up call. The good restaurant is a long walk
from the rooms and the menu (mains Birr37 to Birr81) has pizza; sometimes the kitchen
does, too. Massage is available. It's 1km north of town.
LODGE
Tourist Hotel $
( 0911-190209; d with/without shower Birr200/ 70; ) Popular with travellers for its
overall cleanliness and friendliness, this simple place on the road to Weyto is well run,
though unreasonably priced. The common toilets are cleaner than average, though the
shower shack is less than private. The restaurant (mains Birr30 to Birr60) serves the best
food within the town.
HOTEL
Arba Minch Hotel $
(d/tw without bathroom Birr80/140; ) Conveniently right at the market, the rooms
aren't too grubby, but we can't say the same about the facilities.

Getting There & Away
The Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday buses between Jinka (Birr80, three hours) and Om-
orate (Birr30, one hour) stop in Turmi. On other days it's easy to find a truck to both
towns.
The direct route to Weyto sees little traffic other than tour company 4WDs. Those driv-
ing themselves should inquire about the road before heading out because when it rains in
the highlands, some of the dry riverbeds can fill up and become too high to cross.
