Though it doesn't live up to its price, Kanta Lodge is a friendly,
comfortable place with lovely views. The tightly packed
tukuls
are simple and plain and
the standard rooms are simply spartan. There's no ablutions block for campers, but if a
room is free you can use it. Kanta is also the top spot to dine (mains Birr35 to Birr90),
though that's only because there's no real competition. Perhaps the under-construction
Korebta Lodge even higher up the hill will force Kanta's prices down to something reas-
onable.

St Mary Hotel $

Set on the
town's only roundabout, there are 46 cold-water rooms of varying age and quality set
around a large, busy (ie noisy) compound used by many truck and bus drivers. The newest
rooms are simple, but surprisingly nice for the price. They usually run the generator until
11pm.

Rooms at this budget hotel on the way in-
to town from Arba Minch aren't quite as good as those at St Mary, but are usually quieter.

Opposite St Mary Hotel, Edget is the top dining spot inside the city.
Not because of any culinary skills, but because the owner keeps the generator running all
day long, ensuring the Cokes and St Georges are cold.

Information
The Konso Cultural Centre charges Birr60 per minute for internet and there's also an in-
ternet cafe at the roundabout. The tourist information centre also plans to open an internet
cafe. The Commercial Bank, by the cultural centre, exchanges cash.
