Dorze's two lodges each call themselves 'Dorze Lodge': to avoid confusion we use the
owners' names. Both feature similar Dorze-style bamboo huts fitted with a few modern
conveniences such as electric lights, bamboo flooring and Western-style beds. The bath-
rooms are external, but have hot water.
Mekonen Lodge $

r100; ) Dorze's original lodge is set in a family compound in Hayzo village, making it
ideal for those looking for cultural immersion. The 15 huts are arranged around a central
courtyard that doubles as the restaurant (dinner buffet Birr50). Mekonen offers 4WD hire
(per day including fuel US$150).

Tsehay Lodge $

Perched on the edge of a cliff peacefully away from any village, this lodge has views that
are, without a hint of hyperbole, amazing. Its village tours usually go to seldom-visited
Amara. Meals (order well in advance) cost Birr80. The 1km-long, 4WD-only access road
is signposted 2km before Hayzo.

Getting There & Away
A series of switchbacks affords some spectacular views over Lake Abaya. Although, be
warned; when it rains, the road is slippery.
Buses (Birr20, one hour) leave Arba Minch's Sikela bus station about hourly. They re-
turn when full with the last departing about 6pm, but aim to leave by 5pm to be sure.
