In-Depth Information
of the guides hire out tents, sleeping bags and cooking gear. If you're driving, Katcha
campsite in the Harenna Forest is a great destination and you'll see and hear lots of wild-
life.
Harenna Forest Hotel & Cultural Lodge $
( 0912-740350, per person Birr100; ) In the village of Rira, just north of the Har-
enna Forest, this family-run spot has really cool woven bamboo huts. There's little Eng-
lish and no electricity, but the welcome is warm. Someone will cook meals if you ask.
GUESTHOUSE
DINSHO
Dinsho Lodge $
(campsites Birr40, dm Birr70, bungalow Birr400; ) Located above park headquarters
(park fee applicable), a stay here would be a no-brainer if it didn't resemble an abandoned
ski chalet. Some call it rustic; some call it decrepit. When you factor in the abundant wild-
life in the surrounding forest, we lean towards the former. It's due to be privatised, which
should change the equation. There's a lounge with a smoky fireplace and a sauna.
LODGE
Rift Valley Safari Lodge
( 0115-152462; ) Though construction was still ongoing during our visit to Dodola,
this place will without a doubt be leagues better than the other two hotels in town.
HOTEL
ROBE
Abadma Hotel $
( 0226-652381; d/tw Birr100/150; ) This new Muslim-owned spot (no alcohol al-
lowed) on the Goba road 500m south of the bus station has the best rooms available in the
area: as long as you won't miss the two channels of satellite TV available at Wabe
Shebelle in Goba. There's no English menu in the decent restaurant (mains Birr12 to Bir-
r25), but you'll be able to decipher some of the Oromo words.
HOTEL
Peacock Hotel $
(
HOTEL
0911-908924; d Birr60;
) Fairly basic, but priced fairly. It's on the Dinsho side of
town.
