This popular restaurant has an interesting gift shop and one of the owners is an artist who
sells his paintings in the basement. His cherubic rocks, inspired by Debre Berhan Selassie
Church, are a unique keepsake.

small store selling baskets, banana art and beads made from recycled magazines. If you
book in advance, they can also prepare a local lunch during your visit. Some items are

Dangers & Annoyances
Various 'guides' will seek you out, but they don't have any historical knowledge and they
aren't allowed inside the Royal Enclosure. Their favourite scam is a half-day trip to the
Simien Mountains, but this is impossible and they'll only take you to Wunenia or Kosoye.
You'll also need to deal with children seeking out tourists with improbable sob stories
and apparently some even dress 'homeless' to pique your sympathy.
