Chapter 9
Introduction to
UV Mapping
Learning Objectives
After completing this chapter, you will be able to:
• Work in different UV layouts
• Unwrap 3D models
• Paint texture on 3D models
INTRODUCTION
UV mapping is a process to project texture maps onto a 3D object. UVs are two dimensional
texture coordinates that define a two dimensional coordinate system called UV texture
space. The letters U and V in UV indicate the axes in the coordinate space. You can use the
UV texture space to place image maps on a 3D surface in CINEMA 4D. UV mapping is a
method used to provide a connection between a 3d model and the image or the texture map
to be mapped on it. In CINEMA 4D, you need to UV map the model to apply a texture on it.
The BodyPaint 3D layout in CINEMA 4D is used to create and edit UV maps. In this
chapter, you will learn to UV map the models and project textures on them. Also, you will
learn to paint textures on the models using the Body Paint 3D.
