a consequence the collector field size. The use of new communication tools offers the
possibility to extend computer simulation to the operational control of energy plants
and buildings. This will increase the transparency of a building's energy flows and
support the optimization process during a building's lifetime. Online comparisons
of building energy consumption and simulated demand have been carried out. Good
agreement between simulation and measurement could only be obtained if changing
internal loads caused by user behaviour could be assessed with reasonable accuracy.
Furthermore, online simulations of power plants were carried out, which showed the
usefulness of simulation tools during the commissioning and operating time of the
plants.
In conclusion, the work aimed to increase knowledge of the summer performance
of buildings and of technologies for supplying cooling energy at low primary energy
consumption. The potential and limitations of passive and active cooling systems were
demonstrated by a range of monitored building projects, laboratory experiments and
simulation studies.
