Customs Regulations
Like any country, Malawi doesn't allow travellers to import weapons, explosives or nar-
cotics. Plants and seeds, livestock and live insects or snails are also prohibited. It is illegal
to take products made from endangered animals or plants out of the country. A yellow-
fever certificate is required from people arriving from an infected area.
Electricity
Electricity supply is 220V to 240V/50Hz and plugs are of the British three-prong variety.

Festivals & Events
The Malawi Lake of Stars Music Festival ( www.lakeofstarsfestival.co.uk ) takes place
each October in Senga Bay and attracts live music acts from around Africa and the UK. It
lasts for three days and proceeds go to charity.
Food
Nshima is Malawi's staple diet. Made from ground corn, it's ubiquitous and served with a
sauce or alongside meat and vegetables. Despite the fact Malawi has no sea it has a wealth
of fish from Lake Malawi with favourites like chambo (similar to bream) and mpasa (like
