Accommodation
BUDGET
In national parks and along the lakeshore, many places offer camping as well as self-cater-
ing chalets or cabins. Camping costs from around US$3 to US$10, depending on whether
you're presented with long-drop toilets and bucket showers, or well-equipped affairs with
hot showers and power points. You'll also find some very welcoming backpacker hostels
all over the country, in the major cities as well as at popular lakeshore destinations such as
Cape Maclear and Nkhata Bay. Prices range from US$5 to US$10 for a dorm up to about
US$10 to US$20 per person for a double or triple with shared facilities and around US$30
for an en suite room. Ordinary guesthouses are less inspiring.
PRICE RANGES
