In-Depth Information
There are two restaurants and a welcoming bar, or if it's warm, eat on the patio. The
menu features sirloin steaks, pork chops and king-sized prawns. There's also bags to do
here, such as grabbing a mountain bike and exploring the plateau, or going for a horse
ride.

( 0888-638524, 01-525271; campsite per person MK600, chalets per person MK2000,
4-bed self-contained chalets MK7000; ) This idyllic campsite in the lee of a valley and
the middle of giant gum- and cedar-tree clearing, is perfect for camping. It's very basic,
boasting only barbecue facilities and a small river rushing past, and while the toilets are
on-site, showers are inconveniently located behind the cottages on other side of the com-
plex.
Alternatively, you can experience the Camp Crystal-meets-Norman Bates chalet on the
hill, with its creaky verandah (complete with rocking chair!), bunk beds, bathrooms and
kitchenette for self-catering (although there's no fridge). It's creepy but huge fun.

Getting There & Away
A sealed road leads steeply up the escarpment from Zomba town to the top of the plateau
(about 4km). After passing the Wico Sawmill, a two-way sealed road, known as the Down
Rd, veers east and continues for another 2km before turning into a dirt track. Up Rd is
now open only to walkers.
Take a taxi (negotiable from around MK6000 to MK8000) all the way, or if this is bey-
ond your means, get a taxi part way - say as far as Wico Sawmill - then simply walk up
the Up Rd.
