ternative to party-style guesthouses and is run by an award-winning British photographer
and his lovely wife. There's also a welcoming bar.

US$75; ) At the far northern end of Cape Maclear Beach, this lodge sits in an
idyllic spot on a beautiful and very clean broad stretch of private beach, strewn with palm
trees and shaded tables, and nestled against the side of the hills. Chalets have cool, tiled
floors, granite bathrooms and thatched roofs.
The restaurant serves up Malawian dishes and there's plenty to do including catamaran
hire (US$45 per full day, includes lunch) and sunset cruises (US$15 per person).

quiet stretch of the beach in well-tended gardens, these oxblood thatch rooms are full of
African flair with mezzanines, huge bathrooms, private verandahs and a cool bar. If
you're feeling active there's volleyball, sailboards and kayaks for free. Cape Mac also has
a restaurant, Froggies , which serves excellent French cuisine and some of the best steaks
in Cape Mac. There's also pool and a whirlpool.

Domwe Island Adventure Camp $$$

120/30, camp tents US$25) Based on nearby Domwe Island, this is the smaller and more
rustic of Kayak Africa's two lodges, run on solar power and romantically lit by paraffin
lamps. It's self-catering, with furnished safari tents, fridges, shared ecoshowers and toi-
lets. It also has a bar and a beautiful staggered dining area, open to the elements and set
among boulders. There are two full-time staff employed here. It costs US$30 each way to
be dropped off/picked up at the island. Kayaks cost US$30 to hire, snorkel gear US$15.
