CAMPGROUND
Mumbo Camp $$$
( 0027-21-783 1955, 0999-942661; per adult/child incl meals, kayak & snorkelling
gear US$290/145, family tent US$725) Situated exclusively on Mumbo Island ( Click
here ) , this ecoboutique campsite has seven walk-in tents on wooden platforms with bath-
rooms, tucked beneath trees and above rocks, with spacious decks and astounding views.
Most people choose to get to the island by kayak from the Kayak Africa
( www.kayakafrica.net ) reception in Cape Maclear - the camp staff will bring along your
stuff in a separate boat. You can catch this boat if you're feeling lazy…
It would be perfectly acceptable to just laze around on the hammocks and decks of the
camps and indulge in that castaway feeling, but there are kayaks, snorkels and scuba les-
sons to be had should you choose. Frogman Scuba ( Click here ) offers casual dives for
US$4, or PADI four-day courses for US$375. A maximum of 14 people can stay here.

Danforth Yachting $$$
( 0999-960770, 0999-960077; www.danforthyachting.com ; full-board per person
US$190; ) Beautifully finished Danforth has stylish, mint-fresh rooms set in
lush beachside gardens. There's a top-notch restaurant with a menu spanning Mediter-
ranean fare to roast beef and Yorkshire pudd.
An active crowd stay here to take advantage of the various yachting options on offer,
but should you want to flop and read there's a peaceful chill-out hut looking out over the
water, and the rooms themselves are sumptuous, with nautical-blue linen contrasting
white walls.

90; ) A firm family favourite and with good reason, Gecko chalets are almost
upon the manicured beach, with kitchenettes and self-catering facilities. There are bunk
beds too for large families, fridges, fans, cool tile floors and mozzie nets, as well as plenty
of hammocks and swing chairs outside.
The thatch- and wicker-accented restaurant is worth a mention for its tasty pizzas and
burgers, as well as being the perfect sundowner spot for a Malawi gin. There's also DSTV
