MK4000. To walk to to Bua River Lodge it's about 10km.
Salima
The small town of Salima is spread out about 20km from the lake, where the road from
Lilongwe meets the main lakeshore road. It's friendly and low-key, useful as a place to
change transport, stock up on provisions and go to the bank before hitting the lakeshore
places at Senga Bay. Don't bother staying overnight though.

Mwambiya Lodge $
( 01-262314; r MK3000; ) The rooms at this joint across the railway line from the
bus station look as if they haven't been painted since Starsky & Hutch first aired. That
said they're large, have mozzie nets and bathrooms, and there's also a restaurant (meals
around MK1000) and bar.
GUESTHOUSE
Half London Lodge $
( 01-262885; s/d MK4000/4800; ) Kitsch rooms looking out onto a courtyard, with
Liberace-style bedspreads, bathrooms and TVs are what you can expect here. All rooms
have Brit-related names - check out 'Grasgow'! Staff are very sweet and the place is
clean if paint thirsty. It's on the way into town opposite the BP petrol station.
GUESTHOUSE
Canoe Ice Cream Den $
(mains MK900) Right beside the Petroda petrol station on the main drag, this sunny little
cafe is redolent with tempting food: steak, chicken, curry, nshima and beef stew, and -
true to its name - ice cream.
