continuing south down the main road past Chintheche.
LODGE
Ngala Beach Lodge $$$

perior chalet US$120/200; ) This lovely traditional thatch lodge has tiled floors,
high ceilings and gardens dripping in bougainvillea. A-frame chalets are romantically fin-
ished with hardwood furniture, Persian rugs and billowing white linen. One caveat - the
lodge sits on a stretch of beach near a reed bank (to the left), and come dusk its waters are
a hunting spot for crocs.
The restaurant serves freshly caught chambo, and has a revolving a la carte menu.
IMMIGRATION OFFICE: GETTING TO
MOZAMBIQUE
The main Mozambique border crossing to the east (where you can also get visas on arrival) is Cóbuè, a short ride
over the water from Likoma Island. Local boats will take you there for US$3 and you pay US$70 for a visa. In the
market by the Cathedral in Cóbuè there's an Immigration Office to fill in your exit pass. Right beside the office are
the boatmen.
Likoma Island
Likoma and Chizumulu Islands are on the Mozambican side of Lake Malawi, but are part
of Malawi. Blissful Likoma measures 17 sq km and is home to around 6000 people.
Likoma's flat and sandy south is littered with baobabs, and offers a constant panoramic
view of Mozambique's wild coast only 40km away. The island's main drawcard is an
abundance of pristine beaches and the activities revolving around them, but there's a
healthy dose of other activities, both cultural and physical, to fill several days here.
