Activities
Boat Rides
Chintheche Inn can organise speedboat trips to nearby Morning Star Island (maximum six
persons, per boat US$60). You can also hire a wooden fishing boat to go snorkelling
(US$80, maximum eight persons).
Birdwatching Walks & Treks
Organised by Wilderness Safaris based at Chintheche Inn, accompany Wesley the guide to
see blue-spotted doves, fish eagles, malachite kingfishers, nightjars as well as purple ban-
dit sunbirds. Walks cost US$10 per person. Wilderness Safaris ( 01-771393;
www.wilderness-safaris.com ; Kenyatta Rd, Bisnowaty Service Centre, Lilongwe) also run
cultural walks to a local tree nursery and the deaf school at Bandawe Mission. Walks also
encompass a trip to a fishing village and local orphanage (US$10 per person).
Diving
Aquanuts Dive School
( 0991-922242; www.aquanutsdivers.com ; Kande Beach Resort) Run by Justin, Aqua-
nuts Dive School, based at Kande Beach Resort, has an on-site training pool and offers in-
troductory four-day PADI courses (US$350), casual dives (US$40) and PADI scuba re-
fresher courses. They also run night dives (US$50).
DIVING
Horse Riding
A professionally run stable, Kande Horse ( 0888-500416; www.kandehorse.com ; Ch-
inteche strip) has 28 horses and organises a variety of excursions from two-hour forest
rides (adult/child MK7500/4000) to swimming with the horses and riding through the
forest (MK15,000). You can also stay here fullboard and ride for US$220 per day. Accom-
modation is in a stone farmhouse at the stables. It is 50km south of Nkhata Bay, just out-
side the village of Kande, and is well signposted from the road.
