Information
The National Bank of Malawi, Standard Bank and First Merchant Bank, all on Orton
Chewa Ave, exchange travellers cheques and money, and offer credit-card withdrawals.
National and Standard Banks have ATMs that accept foreign cards. If you're heading to
Nkhata Bay, there are now a couple of ATMs but just in case stock up on cash here.

Getting There & Away
AXA City Trouper buses go to Lilongwe at 7am and 5pm (MK3500, five hours) and local
buses leave at 7.30am and 6pm (MK2200, six to seven hours). AXA buses also go to
Karonga, leaving at 6.30am and 10am (MK1500, four hours) and local buses leave to
Karonga at 6.30am (MK700, five hours) via Rumphi (MK1000) and Chitimba (MK540).
Minibuses go to Nkhata Bay (MK850, one to two hours), Karonga (MK2000, three to
four hours), Chitimba (MK1700, two hours), Rumphi (MK1000, one hour) and the Tan-
zanian border (MK2500, four hours).
