The nearest public bus you can get is via the service from Mzuzu to Rumphi. From
there, you'll have to find a truck or
matola
(MK1500) going to Chitipa to drop you off at
the turn-off to Chelinda Camp, from where you'll still have 20km to walk. From the camp
itself you can catch a lift out of the park on a timber truck bound for Rumphi (MK1500).
The main Thazima Gate is 54km from Rumphi; once inside the park it's another 60-odd
kms (about two hours' drive) to Chelinda Camp. The road after Rumphi is appallingly
bumpy as far as Thazima Gate, but once inside the park the road to Chelinda is easily nav-
igable by ordinary car. Kaperekezi Gate, in the west of the park, is rarely used by travel-
lers. Petrol is available at Chelinda but in limited supply, so fill up before you enter the
park. Entry for a car into Nyika is US$10 per person and US$3 per vehicle.
