Mtc600/800) Very basic and rough around the edges, but welcoming and the only accom-
modation in the midst of crowded Makuti Town. It has an eight-bed dorm and several
small, dark rooms with fan in a tiny garden behind the family house. All accommodation
has nets, and the room price includes breakfast. There are also basic cooking facilities,
laundry service and a refrigerator. Meals can be arranged with advance notice. Take the
first left after passing the green mosque (to your right), make your way down the narrow,
rocky path to the first corner and turn right.

Mtc200/ 500) On the mainland, just to the left of the bridge when coming from the island,
this place was just getting started when we passed through. It offers a chance to stay in a
very basic traditional style house and become acquainted with the local community. Vo-
lunteering can also be arranged, as can local style meals.
Eating
For self-caterers, there are several well-stocked shops just inside the market entrance. For
great ambience, ask around for the 'barraca restaurants' near the hospital, especially Bar-
raca Sara.
