In-Depth Information
Dhows or motorised boats to the nearby islands can be arranged at the capitania (mari-
time office), at the base of the main road near Praça dos Heróis. Dhows also leave fre-
quently from the fish market.
Stretching well south of Angoche towards Moma and on to Pebane are the archipelagos
of the Primeiras and Segundas Islands , slated to be Mozambique's newest protected
area. Several of the islands are favoured as nesting areas by local green turtles and many
are encircled by coral reefs. Dugongs are also frequent visitors. There are no tourist facil-
ities yet, although several projects are underway.
