This rustic place, 40km north
of town in a serene setting on the Savane River, is separated from the sea by a narrow
peninsula and makes a fine getaway. It has camping,
barracas
(thatched shelters, Mtc400
plus Mtc200 per person) with mattresses and bedding, a couple of self-catering chalets
(d/q Mtc1500/3000), and meals. The surrounding wetlands are ideal for birding. Follow
the Dondo road past the airport to the right-hand turn-off for Savane. Continue 35km to
the estuary, where there's secure parking and a small boat (until 5pm) to take you to the
camp.

This quiet place near the lighthouse has spotless, well-equipped
rooms with views to the sea upstairs, and a couple of four-person family rooms with bunk
beds downstairs. All rooms have mosquito nets. There's no breakfast and no meals, but
there is a small garden with
braai
facilities, and filtered water. The beach is just across the
street. It's very popular and often full; advance bookings recommended.
