In-Depth Information
west of the main road. Coming from Maputo, departures from Junta are between 2.30am
and 3.30am. More comfortable TCO buses running between Maputo and Beira stop only
at Pambara junction, and need to be booked in advance.
To Beira To Beira (Mtc550, 10 hours) buses depart Vilankulo at 4.30am at least every
second day; book the afternoon before.
TO CHIMOIO
There's no direct bus to Chimoio. You'll need to take a Beira bus as far as Inchope junc-
tion (Mtc550 from Vilankulo), and then get a minibus from there.
To Maxixe To Maxixe (for Inhambane and Tofo), several minibuses depart each morning
(Mtc180, three to four hours). Allow six to seven hours for the entire journey from Vil-
ankulo to Tofo.
To Inhassoro To Inhassoro (Mtc75, 1½ hours), minibuses depart from just east of the
market.
Getting Around
Vilankulo is very spread out. For a taxi, try contacting Sr Eusébio ( 82-681 3383) , or
arrange through your hotel. Occasional chapas run along the main road, but not out to the
beach places on the northeastern edge of town, and not to the airport. Chapas to Chibuene
(Mtc15, 30 minutes) depart from next to Afro Bar just down (west) from the old market.
They can take a long time to fill; for Mtc100, drivers are usually willing to leave when
you are ready. The chapa terminus in Chibuene is at the T-junction near Casa Guci. Go
left from here for Casa Guci and Blue Waters. For Archipelago Resort, ask the driver to
drop you at the turnoff shortly before the T-junction.
At night, always take a taxi in the area near Baobab Beach Backpackers, to/from the
Maputo bus terminus and near the old market and anywhere near the beachfront.
