Barra sits at the tip of the Barra Peninsula, where the waters of Inhambane Bay mix with
those of the Indian Ocean. On the bay side are stands of mangrove and wetland areas that
are good for birding. It's all beautiful, but unlike Tofo, there's no town, and everything's
spread out. Many self-drivers prefer Barra's quieter scene and its range of midrange ac-
commodation options, but Tofo is a better bet if you're backpacking or relying on public

Well- appointed wood-and-thatch stilt houses lined up in a row directly over the
bay. There's also a good restaurant known for its 'double meat pizzas'. No children under
12 years of age permitted. It's under the same management as the nearby Barra Lodge,
and transfers to/from the Barra Lodge beach are provided.
