Mango Beach $
( 82-943 4660; www.mangobeach.co.za ; d Mtc865-2000, 4-/6-person chalets Mtc2125/
4375) About 4km north of town along the road paralleling the beach, and signposted from
the entrance to Tofo, is Mango Beach. It has a dune-top bar/eating area with impressive
views over the beach (which is rocky just in front, so you'll need to head south for swim-
ming). Behind the dunes is a cluster of basic bungalows with shared bathrooms. Bring
your own towels and linens. Nicer are the houses (also with shared bathroom), and the
chalets, which come with their own kitchenette and bathroom. There's no electricity for
the entire compound from sunset to dawn, and it gets very dark.
BUNGALOW
CFM Lodge $$
( 293-29020; r Mtc1800; ) CFM Lodge is smack in the centre of things, opposite the
market and about 100m back from the beach behind Hotel Tofo Mar. Its row of attached
rooms come with nets and hot water. Check that your air-con is working first, as the
rooms aren't well-ventilated otherwise. There's no food, although a restaurant is planned.
PENSION
Hotel Tofo Mar $$$
( www.hoteltofomar.com ) Situated in a prime location directly on the beach in the town
centre, Hotel Tofo Mar is the only 'proper' hotel (ie non bungalow-style place) in Tofo. It
was being completely renovated at the time of writing, but should reopen imminently.
Check with them for an update.
