This backpackers on the water-
front has clean rooms and dorm beds (the family room has its own bathroom), a
restaurant-bar serving pizzas and local cuisine, and a rooftop terrace overlooking the bay.
From the ferry, take a left coming off the jetty and continue about 300m. The same man-
agement runs campgrounds at Tofinho and Barra lighthouse.

The Tropical has a row of tidy
rooms facing a small garden. Some have double bed, others have a double plus a single
bed. All have fan, net and hot water, and most also have TV and minifridge. Breakfast
costs extra, and there's a small restaurant. It's well-located just off Avenida da
Independência.

By the train station at the eastern edge of town, this place has functional attached
twins (no nets), with each two-room (four-bed) unit sharing a bathroom. Unless they are
full, you can often negotiate to only be charged per occupied bed, rather than for the entire
room. From the ferry jetty, continue straight through town to the end of the main road.
