Getting There & Away
Dana Tours ( Click here ) operates day and overnight trips to the reserve. Otherwise,
you'll need your own transport (4WD). The main entrance, known as campeamento prin-
cipal, is about 65km from Catembe along the Ponta d'Ouro road. From here, it's 3km to
the park gate, and then about 35km further through the reserve along a rough road to the
coast and the camping ground. There's a second entrance further along the Ponta d'Ouro
road, marked with a barely legible signpost, from where it's about 22km into the reserve.
Namaacha
Cool Namaacha lies on the border with Swaziland, about 70km west of Maputo. Its streets
are lined with lavender jacaranda and bright-orange flame trees, and thanks to its favour-
able climate, it is the source of many of the flowers for sale on Maputo's street corners.
The ornate colonial-era church is the main building of interest.
Located on the main road in the town centre, Hotel Libombos (

ant and a casino.
Chapas run throughout the day to/from Maputo (Mtc70, 1½ hours), departing
Namaacha from the border, and stopping in front of the market on the main road.

This small resort town sits on the large Uembje Lagoon, which is separated from the open
sea by a narrow, sandy spit. Thanks to its sheltered waters and its position as the first re-
sort area north of Maputo, it's a popular destination with vacationing South African famil-
ies, and on holiday weekends you'll be tripping over motorboats, windsurfing boards and
