on the island's southwestern edge, these no-frills rooms have shared facilities and cold-

Set in expansive, shaded gardens just north of the ferry pier on the island's western side,
this four-star establishment is Inhaca's main hotel. Rooms are bright and cheery, with
mosquito nets, fan and air-con. The family rooms (most are wheelchair-friendly) have a
double bed, a sofa bed that can take two children, and a small verandah. Once you move
past the hustle at the pier, it makes for a relaxing retreat (go midweek or in the off-season
when it's quieter). There's a saltwater swimming pool, a restaurant with a lunchtime buf-
fet, an in-house dive operator and package deals from Johannesburg (also in combination
with its sister hotels in Maputo and on the Bazaruto Archipelago). Note that there's a two-
night minimum stay during peak periods.
Restaurante Lucas $$
( 21-760007; meals Mtc250-450; from 7am) This long-standing local-style restaur-
ant is the main place to eat. It's pricey, but the seafood grills are delicious, and the ambi-
ence is laid back. Order in advance if you're in a rush or if you fancy a particular dish. It's
next to Pestana Inhaca Lodge.
