In-Depth Information
Lumangwe Falls
Often called 'mini Victoria Falls,' Lumangwe does indeed look like a smaller version of the famous Zambezi wa-
terfalls. However, it's a surprisingly large (30m high and 100m wide) curtain of water, broken into several separ-
ate streams by rocks and miniature islands at the lip of the falls. Camping is possible.
Kabweluma Falls
About 8km downstream from Lumangwe via a beautiful walk, Kabweluma is actually three separate waterfalls.
The highest is a small, perfectly formed horseshoe, and the lowest is a more gently angled cascade flowing over
grass and moss-covered rocks. The caretaker at Lumangwe can act as a guide.
Kundabwika Falls
On the Kalungwishi River about 40km downstream from Kabweluma Falls, Kundabwika Falls is reached from
the road between Mporokoso and Lake Mweru. The river flows through a gorge over two small falls then plum-
mets over the main waterfall, which is about 25m high, before thundering off down the gorge again.
Kalambo Falls
By far the highest falls in Zambia, and the second highest in Africa, the Kalambo Falls ( Click here ) can be
reached by road from Mbala or by boat from Mpulungu.
Chishimba Falls
Chishimba is a series of three waterfalls, shaped into a wide curtain of water pounding over rocks in a thickly
wooded amphitheatre. Camping is permitted nearby and buses and minibuses run daily between Kasama and
Mporokoso, passing close to the falls.
