further on from Sandy Beach, this is a basic camp oft frequented by groups. In addition to
camping there are three very simple thatch chalets. Meals can be provided but most self-
cater. Fishing, bush walks and visits to local villages are all on offer.

Near the southwestern end of Lake Kariba and far from its cousin on the water at the other
end of the lake, Sinazongwe is a small Zambian town used by kapenta fisherman as an
outpost. The centre of town is actually up on a hill away from the lake's edge and the
whole area has little tourism footprint.

fast ZMW250/470; ) A kilometre from town and easy to find is Lakeview Lodge, where
simple chalets with ceiling fans have a secluded terrace overlooking the lake and verdant
grounds. There's also a pool, small beach area and a braai (barbecue). Meals are ZMW40
and you can hire a boat to Chikanka or Chete Island. This is a good spot to chill out for a
few days.

Kariba Bush Club

r ZMW192; ) About 60km from Sinazongwe, but with an excellent array of accommod-
ation options, is Kariba Bush Club, a beautifully landscaped site. Traditional buildings
have dorm accommodation as well as very tastefully furnished double, twin and family
rooms and thatch-roofed chalets; there are also two wonderfully comfortable guesthouses
for groups with DSTV, brilliant locations and gobsmacking views. You can self-cater or
meals are available, including local specialities such as crocodile curry and lake bream.
Activities include walking safaris on the private islands (you can camp or stay in a safari
tent on Maaze Island 20 minutes away by speed boat). To get to the club, take the road to
Maamba from Batoka on the main Lusaka-Livingstone Highway - about 2km before
Maamba take the dirt road to the left and follow the signs.
