with South Africans and Brits, is ideal if you like fake Irish pubs and a more Western
drinking experience. There are decent beers and a great outdoor terrace, even if it does
overlook a car park.

If you're looking for a cheap, local souvenir, consider a chitenje from a local shop or one
of the markets. This is the brightly patterned cotton cloth that you'll see all over the place,
often wrapped around local women to hold their bubs in place. You should be able to pick
one up for roughly ZMW50.

shopping centres (the latter is the oldest and least swish) are easy to reach by minibus
from along Cairo Rd or from the Millennium Bus Station, or by taxi (around ZMW25). As
well as banks, bookshops, internet cafes, furniture stores, restaurants and fast-food outlets,
the shopping centres boast huge supermarkets.

pecially purses, travel bags and accessories, head to this spot, which shares an idyllic loca-
tion with a highly recommended cafe on Sugarbush Farm east of Kabulonga, around
15km from the city centre.

(Great East Road, Arcades Shopping Centre; 9am-6pm Sun) This weekly market, held
in the parking lot at the Arcades Shopping Centre, features Lusaka's best range of handi-
crafts, especially wood carvings, curios made from malachite and African prints. Bargain-
ing is expected though it's a relaxed low-pressure affair.
