Hand Embroidering the Design
Now it's time to embroider the fish's body. You'll need to use
nonconductive thread for this; choose your favorite fish colors.
Whether you follow our pattern or draw up your own, you can

Embroidery is to cross-stitch as
vector graphics are to raster graphics: you can create various
lines and fills to create color effects and textures, like with vec-
tor graphics, but you can't use embroidery to create bitmap
images.
For most of the lines you can use a backstitch (see
Figure 5-6
),
saying to yourself, “Two steps forward (at the back of the fab-
ric), one step back (at the front of the fabric).”
