thread can affect the power supply. For large quantities of pixels
(over 10), you may want to consider using stranded-core wire or
copper braid to provide a “power bus” for the pixels—the cur-
rent draw adds up fast!

FLORA Accelerometer/Compass
Module (Motion Sensor)
Want to sense motion or cardinal direction? There are two dif-
ferent sensors in this one module. One is a three-axis acceler-
ometer (see Figure 3-8 ), which senses which way is down
toward the earth (by measuring gravity) and how fast the board
is accelerating in 3D space. The other sensor is a magnetometer
(compass) that senses the strongest magnetic force nearby,
generally magnetic north. Use all this information together to
orient yourself with this sensor, or just use some element of it
for projects like a dance-activated light-up skirt or north-finding
headband.

It's based on the latest version of a popular sensor, the
LSM303DLHC. The sensor has a digital (I2C; see sidebar) inter-
face. Attaching it to FLORA is simple: line up the sensor so it's
adjacent to the SDA/SCL pins and sew conductive thread from
