Clothes Iron
Occasionally fabric gets wrinkly, so you'll want to iron it out. An
iron ( Figure 1-8 ) is also handy for fusing iron-on adhesives to
make conductive fabric buttons. Be careful when using a nice
clothes iron with iron-on adhesives, since they can gunk up the
surface and transfer sticky stuff to the next formal outfit you
iron. This is one tool where it pays to have a low-end spare—you
can pick up a cheap iron at the thrift store and dedicate it to
crafty activities, sparing the one you use for your nice shirts.

Soldering Iron
Soldering irons are used to melt solder and fuse wires and com-
ponents to a circuit board. Unlike your basic entry-level solder-
ing iron, high-end soldering irons add the ability to precisely
control the temperature of the iron; they heat up much faster
and often come with interchangeable tips for specialized
