Kompakh
( 085 6500 2101; www.kompakh.org ; Jl Kenanga Komp. Ruko Pemda 3D) This unique
organisation should be your first stop upon entering Putussibau. A WWF ecotourism initi-
ative, the folks here know everything about Kapuas Hulu and can arrange all sorts of
tours, including Danau Sentarum National Park, longhouse visits, river cruising and
jungle treks. This is one of two organisations in Kalimantan qualified to offer the Cross-
Borneo Trek. Manager Hermas (hrmaring@yahoo.com) speaks fluent English - unique
among guides in Putussibau.

HOTEL
Mess Pemda $
( 21010; Jl Merdeka 11; r 137,000-165,000Rp; ) Called 'Wisma Uncak Kapuas' by
its sign outside, this government hostel offers surprisingly nice rooms, each with air-con,
TV, Western toilet and mandi, arrayed around the central living area of a large single-level
house. The well-lit rooms in front are best. Like it or not, there is no better value in Pu-
tussibau. From Jl A Yani, turn left on Jl Dahar and make two rights to Jl Merdeka.
Sanjaya Hotel $$
( 21653; Jl Yos Sudarso 129; r incl breakfast 100,000-375,000Rp; ) The few de-
luxe rooms here, which line a refreshing hallway of contemporary design, are the only
somewhat upmarket accommodation in town. However, the economy rooms are unlit
tombs.
