Getting There & Away
Air
Kalstar ( 747 972; Jl Subroto 80, en route to airport) The only airline serving
Samarinda. Most flights connect through Balikpapan.
Boat
Pelni ( 741 402; Jl Yos Sudarso 76)
Mahakam ferries ( kapal biasa ) leave at 7am from Sungai Kunjang terminal (3km via an-
gkot )
Pelni ferries leave from the main harbour on Jl Yos Sudarso. See the harbour master (Jl
Yos Sudarso 2) for service to Pare Pare aboard Queen Soya .
Bus
Samarinda has multiple bus terminals:
Sungai Kunjang terminal For Kota Bangun (23,000Rp, three hours) and Balikpapan
(27,000Rp, two hours).
Lempake terminal (north end of town) For Bontang (25,000Rp, three hours), Sangatta
(20,000Rp, four hours) and Berau (150,000Rp, 16 hours).
Harapan Baru terminal (south bank of Sungai Makaham, angkot route G) For minibuses
to Tenggarong (10,000Rp, one hour).
Segiri terminal (north end of Jl Pahlawan) For minibuses to Pampang (7000Rp, one
hour).
A direct bus to Balikpapan Airport (50,000Rp) departs from the office of Prima Tour &
Travel six times per day.
Car & Kijang
A Kijang seat is 300,000Rp to Kota Bangun, and 250,000Rp to Berau. Hiring a car and
driver is 500,000Rp per day. A 4WD doubles the price. You can organise a car through
