kitsch. Air-con rooms are large and clean, but only deluxe rooms have hot water.

unpretentious seafood restaurants further up Jl Abdul Hassan.

Perched
above the busy riverside drive, this new and stylish cafe is a breath of fresh air in a city
that sorely needs more like it. The open-air dining is atmospheric, if a bit loud, and the
menu offers something for everyone, be it Chinese, pasta or steak.

With a commanding location overlooking the Mahakam from its southern bank, about
2km south of the bridge, this is a refreshing spot, as it takes advantage of the city's
greatest asset: its river views. The excellent food brings in the locals. Live music 10am to
11pm.
