Samarinda Islamic Centre
(Jl Slamet Riyadi; tower admission 10,000Rp; mosque 8-10am & 4-6pm, tower
7am-6pm) The skyline of Samarinda is dominated by this new must-see complex contain-
ing an awe-inspiring mosque and adjacent tower. The latter is the highest point in the city,
offering panoramic views up and down a great bend in the Mahakam. The muezzin's call
at sunset is a captivating moment here.

Mesjid Siratal Mustaqim
(Samarinda Seberang) A 400-year-old wooden mosque designed by a Dutchman, in colo-
nial architectural style, with a unique wooden minaret. On the south side of the river near
the boat landing.
