Boat
Balikpapan has several ports along its gulf coast. If arriving from Banjarmasin by bus
you'll take the ferry from Penajam to Kariangau Harbour. Further south lies Kampung
Baru Harbour, which serves Sulawesi. Semayang Harbour, at the entrance to the gulf, is
the main cargo and passenger port.

Bus
Buses to Samarinda leave from Batu Ampar bus terminal at the north end of town. Buses
to Banjarmasin leave from the terminal across the harbour. To get there take angkot (city
minibus) 6 to Jl Monginsidi and hop on a speedboat (10,000Rp to 20,000Rp, 10 minutes)
to the other side. If arriving, your bus ticket will automatically include a ferry across the
harbour. However, since this can mean an hour wait, it may be better to get off at the ferry
landing and take a speedboat.
