In the city centre, restaurants can be found along the waterfront and on Jln Sultan
(south of Jln Pemancha). The big shopping malls, including those out in Gadong, have
food courts
everywhere. Find a spot that looks busy and chow down. All restaurants lis-
ted have air-conditioning except outdoor food stalls.

Located in Gadong, Pondok Sari Wangi is a beloved Bandar institu-
tion. The cuisine is Indonesian/Chinese, which means lots of gloriously rich, decadent,
colourful grub like marinated 'smashed chicken', a fried fish with fiery
sambal
, sweet
sauteed local greens and vegetables, mouth-watering satay with a heavily textured peanut
sauce and the signature short ribs, braised to something like perfection. If you want to
have some culinary indulgence on your trip, we recommend coming out here and ordering
one of everything.

food, sure. Crispy braised pork knuckle, pork belly, pork buns, pork dumplings; it's seri-

's hell. More so, because it is actually forbidden to raise pigs in Brunei, Lim
Ah Siaw is the closest thing we found in Brunei to a speakeasy. Seriously. You kinda feel
like a smuggler sneaking into this Chinese market -turned-restaurant. It also has the atmo-
sphere of a Hong Kong gambling hall, which might take away from the food but certainly
spices up the illicit zeitgeist.

(thick, starchy porridge),
Brunei's signature dish. If you're up for trying a generous serving of wiggly white goo,
this is a good spot to do so. Also serves rice and noodle dishes. Meals can be washed
down with iced
kasturi ping
(calamansi lime juice; B$1.80). There are nine branches of
Aminah Arif in town, but this one seems the most popular.
