Orangutans
You scan the canopy and wait, straining to hear the rustle of branches above the drone of
cicadas. Suddenly, a fluttering of leaves and - a flash of orange-brown fur! It's a female or-
angutan, her baby hanging onto her long chest hair as the two of them swing through their
native habitat, high in the rainforest canopy. Later, dangling in space, the mother crams
bright-yellow bananas into her mouth and casually hands fruit to her hungry infant.

Jungle Trekking
There's nothing quite like being a day or two's walk from the nearest road, entirely sur-
rounded by old-growth rainforest as you tramp from one longhouse to the next. It's a chal-
lenging slog - the heat, the humidity and the leeches take their toll, and the trail itself
sometimes disappears into a bog or, on muddy inclines, becomes as slippery as ice - but to
be surrounded with such fecundity and botanical richness…the feeling is indescribable!
