There are several excellent restaurants along the Waterfront Es-
planade, but this Indian place is an easy favourite. Take advantage of its authentic tandoori
oven and don't forget to grab a side of pillowy garlic naan.

For cheap, excellent eats, head to the
top floor of the Wisma Merdeka mall and get stuck into the local food court. There's a
nice diversity of stalls serving mainly Asian street food; the Chinese dumpling stand is de-
licious and cheap as chips. Note the above hours do not apply to each stall; some close
shop earlier in the day and some stick around into the evening, but in general this is a
breakfast and lunch food court.

For our
money - and you'll spend a bit here - this is the best Japanese in KK. Why? Well, it's the
sushi spot of choice for Japanese businessmen on return visits, which oughta tell you
something. If they've got roe (caviar) on the menu, get it, and thank us later. Located in
the Hyatt Regency.

at this popular Chinese place next to Ang's Hotel. Its
sayur manis
cooked in
belacan
(shrimp paste) is a classic, and the salt-and-pepper prawns are tasty.

TANJUNG ARU
In the early evening, head to Tanjung Aru at the south end of town near the airport for
sunset cocktails and light snacks along the ocean. The area has three beaches - First
Beach offers up a few restaurants, Second Beach has steamy local stalls, and Third Beach
is a great place to bring a picnic as there are no establishments along the sand. A taxi to
Tanjung Aru costs RM20, or you can take public transport (RM1.80) - take bus 16, 16A
or city bus 2.
