THE 72-HOUR VISA-FREE STOPOVER
If you can work in a stopover in Beijing on your way to somewhere else, you can
now visit for 72 hours without a visa.
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE VISA WAIVER
1. You must tell the airline in advance of your intention to take advantage of the visa
waiver.
2. You need to complete the relevant documents at the customs gate.
WHAT CONDITIONS APPLY?
1. You must be from one of the 45 approved countries, such as the United States, the
United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, or New Zealand.
2. You must have a valid passport.
3. The visa is valid for travelers coming into Beijing via Beijing Capital Airport only,
not by train.
4. You must have proof of an onward flight to another destination within 72 hours.
This document needs to state the exact departure date and seat number. You must
have purchased the flight in advance and not after arriving in Beijing.
5. You must be eligible for entry into your next destination.
6. You must stay within the limits of Beijing.
OTHER THINGS TO KNOW
1. While you're in Beijing, you will need to carry valid ID on you at all times. If
you're staying with a friend or relative rather than at a hotel or hostel, you'll also
need to register with the local police within 24 hours of arrival.
