A mother and son stroll in Ritan Park.
To live a more Zen-ful, less agitated life here, abandon your own Western notions of
public courtesy. Do not expect anyone to hold a door open for you—in fact, expect them
to let it slam in your face; do not expect people to let you out of the elevator or a vehicle
before they scramble in; do not expect a car to give way to you even if you have a green
light; and, if you're planning to drive, repress the idea that the thank you wave ever existed.
Without any such expectations, you will cruise through life much more agreeably, and no
doubt at times even be pleasantly surprised.
