Where to Live
WUDAOKOU
Wudaokou is a youthful and vibrant place to be a part of. It's where most of Beijing's expat
student population resides, and that includes people from China, the U.S., Europe, Japan,
Korea, and many other parts of the world. Wherever you go you'll be immersed in a cultur-
ally rich environment. Though getting yourself down to Sanlitun or Gulou for a night out
can feel like an arduous expedition, within Wudaokou everything is close at hand, giving it
a real village feel. A friend and a coffee are just minutes away.
Given the number of startup companies around Zhongguancun and nearby Zhichun Lu,
Wudaokou is also filled by go-getting entrepreneurs. People rise early in the morning and
charge into the day, and there's a constant atmosphere of opportunity and willingness to
make things happen. You might get a scent of this in the east, but here in Wudaokou it's
palpable, and the person sitting at the table next to you in the café might be your next busi-
ness partner.
Everything in Wudaokou is centered around Chengfu Lu and the subway station. There
are shopping malls, cafés, bars, karaoke bars, street food vendors, and endless cell phone
retailers on either side. Just a short walk west of the subway station is TusPark
( http://en.tsinghua-vc.com ) , one of the area's most important science parks. TusPark is an
initiative by Tsinghua University aimed at promoting technology innovation and entrepren-
eurship, and in addition to its internal business facilities, its tenants also include quality
cafés and restaurants that appeal to Wudaokou's working crowd.
