In-Depth Information
Children play in the fountain at Taikoo Li Sanlitun.
The Workers' Stadium (G ō ngrén T ǐ yùch ǎ ng, or G ō ngt ǐ for short), just west of Taikoo
Li Sanlitun, is also a crucial fixture in the area. Many of the surrounding streets take their
name from it—Gongti Beilu (north) is the main road that runs east-west across Sanlitun,
along with Gongti Donglu (east), Gongti Nanlu (south), and Gongti Xilu (west), all potted
with bars and restaurants of some description. Inside the gates of the stadium there are yet
more restaurants, bars, clubs, and stores. One block farther west along Gongti Beilu is the
Workers' Gymnasium, G ō ngrén T ǐ yùgu ǎ n). The gymnasium has nothing to bring you to
it on a regular day or night, but like the Workers' Stadium, on occasion it is the venue for
Chinese or international music concerts as well as sports matches.
