44 内/外 : This bus is for those who don't like to be below ground, given that it essentially
travels the exact same route as the Line 2 subway train, with the 内 going in a clockwise
direction and 外 going anticlockwise.
90 内/外 : This loop route is shaped like an upside-down T. It can be handy if you live
near Fuchengmen or Chegongzhuang and want to get up to Houhai, Gulou, or the Olympic
area, or down along Chang'an Jie to Wangfujing. Again, 内 is clockwise and 外 is counter-
clockwise.
107: This handy bus travels from Chegongzhuang to Ping'anli and Houhai, then turns
right onto Guloudong Dajie, where it continues east, passing Nanluogu Xiang, hot pot heav-
en Guijie, and Dongzhimennei Dajie, finishing at Dongzhimen station, or vice versa.
118: Possibly the simplest way to get to Sanlitun if you live in Xicheng, this bus starts
west of Chegongzhuang West Station (Line 6) and travels directly along the one unbending
series of roads—Ping'anli Xidajie, Di'anmen Xidajie, Di'anmen Dongdajie, Zhangzizhong
Lu, Dongsishitiao, and Gongti Beilu—dropping you off in front of the Workers' Stadium
(Gongti) before turning south on its way toward Hujialou (Line 10), right in the heart of the
CBD.
Deshengmen Long-Distance Bus Station
When you plan to take a day trip out of town, chances are you may need to come here to get
on your bus. Several buses, for example, head out to the Great Wall at Badaling (bus 877 is
your best choice).
The terminus is extremely chaotic and unplanned. Buses do have allotted places to stop
at, but working out just where they are can require a series of questions to people who look
like they might know what's going on. Long-distance bus numbers can be a little tricky
sometimes. Some numbers come with a character, such as a 快 or 内 . Don't discount these
characters when double checking your bus details; they can make a big difference to where
you end up or how long it takes you to get there.
