In-Depth Information
Getting Around
This is a densely populated part of town, so getting around can be a little tedious. Rapidly
improving infrastructure is, however, making a difference. If you choose to cab it, expect to
spend around RMB15 to get to Wangfujing, RMB20 to get to the CBD, and RMB30 to get
to Sanlitun.
SUBWAY AND TRAINS
Currently the subway coverage here is patchy, but in one to two years, when Line 7 and the
southern end of Line 8 are up and running, things will be noticeably better. As things stand
now, you'll be limited to Lines 1, 2, and 5. These are, however, extremely useful and can
have you at Wangfujing in a few minutes, to Guomao in 5-15 (depending on if you need to
change lines or not), and to Sanlitun in around 30. Realistically you would need to allow
50-60 minutes to get to the airport, given the number of interchanges required.
Beijing Railway Station is also in the south Dongcheng region. Complete with its own
subway station at the southeast corner of Line 2, it is typically the starting point for trains to
Dongbei (including Harbin, Shenyang, and Dalian), Shandong (including Qingdao, Jinan),
Shanghai, Nanjing, and Hangzhou, as well Inner and Outer Mongolia.
