In-Depth Information
Dashilan is a popular place for tourists, but has a multitude of restaurants that attract locals, too.
Places of Interest
This neighborhood has a mixture of interesting features. Historic sites include Tiantan Park
(Temple of Heaven Park) and Yongdingmen, the southern gate of the city's axis—although
this latter structure is not the original (which was demolished in 1957), but a restoration
constructed in 2004.
Inside Tiantan Park, various buildings draw in the tourists, religious structures used by
the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties to pray to heaven for bumper crops. As a
resident, however, you'll also find this park a satisfying place in which to wander and do
modest exercise. It's pleasant for strolls and badminton.
To the east, Longtan Lake Park, being much more for the people, is more a place for
genuine fitness. It's one of the few places in town to have a soft running track, and there are
various public exercise machines. Kids will also have fun on the play equipment. There is
a rock climbing wall, but this has sadly fallen into disuse.
Adults and kids can enjoy ice skating at New World Champion Skating Rink in Beijing
New World Shopping Mall south of Chongwenmen station. This is one of the bigger skating
rinks in the city and it's a family-friendly venue.
