In-Depth Information
pleasant and relaxing Ritan Park in Chaoyang
The problem with Chaoyang, however, is that it is massive and encompasses places that
are as disconnected in style as they are in distance. Simply living in the district will not
automatically make everything that it holds convenient for you, and a good many parts of it
are inconvenient and remain steadfastly local. The northeast corner of Chaoyang that neigh-
bors Shunyi district, for example, is as remote to many inner-city residents as Shunyi itself,
while for some parts of the far east and south of the district might just as well be Daxing or
Tongzhou. For this reason it's not only necessary to thoroughly understand the location of
neigborhood that you're interested in, but to also keep your eyes out for what you might be
able to access more easily in the district next door rather than within Chaoyang.
HAIDIAN
The first thing that usually comes to mind when Haidian is mentioned is universities. This
is the city's official academic district, and is home to the majority of Beijing's multitude
of universities, including the country's two frontrunners, Tsinghua University and Peking
University, as well as two other expat favorites, Beijing Language and Culture University
(BLCU) and Beijing Foreign Studies University.
