In-Depth Information
Using a black cab always requires a bit of bargaining. You can usually get them down
to about the same price as a taxi, and perhaps a fraction lower if your skills are good. In
the rain, you've got no chance. They'll ask RMB60 for an RMB20 ride, and if you refuse
they'll wave you on.
The bèngbèng (rear) and the electric bike are standard forms of private and often illegal public
transport.
Despite their reputation, black-cab drivers are not all bad and can be extremely jovial.
They don't have the stress of regular taxi drivers, and drive just when they want to. Many
of them are happy with what they do and keep their cars spotlessly clean.
