Train tickets can be purchased from train stations or from shops around town.
You can get almost anywhere in China by rail, and at an ever increasing speed. In 2012
alone, the government added 6,366 kilometers of rail, 55 percent of which was for the high-
speed rail (HSR) trains.
Trains in China are safe, even for women traveling alone, and while you should still
keep an eye on your belongings, you never really hear of the kinds of problems that plague
long-distance trains in other parts of the world. Another advantage to opting for a train
journey is that while it's obviously longer than flying, you can almost always choose an
